Whenever you find yourself dealing with a stressful situation involving moderate to severe injuries, or with long-lasting effects to your health, income, or overall well-being, it’s best to hire an experienced personal injury attorney. Not only can a personal injury attorney provide expert legal representation, but they can also help with settlement negotiation. Let’s face it; most insurance companies don’t want a court case on their hands. After, say, a car accident, the at-fault driver’s insurance company is liable to send you a check in the mail instead of bringing their team of lawyers to the courthouse. But you need legal representation of your own to determine how large that check will be for your injuries. Here is how to find the right personal injury attorney near you!

    Finding a Personal Injury Attorney

It all starts with a single online search. After a severe accident or injury, you’re likely left wondering what went wrong and how you can manage with so much medical debt on your hands. Well, an experienced personal injury attorney is the answer.

Let’s start online. A quick Google search will display local attorneys who offer services for all manner of accidents, including slip and falls, car accidents, and workplace accidents. Find the one that fits your situation perfectly. Then, check their reviews and testimonials. You can find these via Google, Yelp, and perhaps on their website itself. Be sure to read a few to get a better understanding of how the firm operates and can help.

Referrals – If you are wary of trusting online reviews, consider asking friends and family for referrals. In the legal world, word of mouth goes a long way. Ask someone you trust. The chances of finding the perfect attorney are considerably greater via this method.

Fees – Much of your decision will come down to price. As such, it is crucial that you discuss any costs associated with an attorney’s services beforehand. Do not sign anything until you thoroughly go over how fees are handled, what you pay, and when.

Research – Once you’ve narrowed down your selection, research your prospective attorneys online. You can check their bar status and whether any disciplinary measures or sanctions have been placed against them.

Experience – In the legal industry, experience makes all the difference. Consider asking your potential attorney about their experience. Ask how long they have been practicing, what percentage of their cases involve your incident, and their success rates. These questions help paint a better picture of their skills.

Lastly, before you sign a contract or any legal documents, be sure to ask who is handling your case. At a large legal firm, there is usually an entire team. This team then rotates, with one attorney handling the most recent case, then the next, etc. Find out who it is handling your case. Meet that attorney in person and discuss with them your concerns regarding the situation.

If you need an experienced attorney near you, be sure to take your time researching possibilities. You must be comfortable and confident in your decision.
